DRABBLE CHALLENGE ~ LETTER

It was a day like any other day. Bright. Fresh. Promising.

It was a letter like any other letter. Standard. Manila. Window envelope.

It was a moment like countless others that had gone before… was it the electricity bill which was always a week late? Another letter of demand from the ongoing mess of a hire purchase contract gone sour? Yet another loan company enticing the average-income breadwinner with the oh-so-tempting sixty month payback deal?

One common thread fed the rumour mill.

Nobody could pry the crumpled sheet from her tightly-clenched fist, as they escorted the blank-eyed, zombie-like figure out of the house…

You can find out more about the weekly drabble challenge, hosted by Aheila on her blog: http://thewriteaholicblog.wordpress.com/

Lol You really had me guessing with this one, M! This has a clever and witty build up to an unexpected and intriguing ending.
    Really enjoyed it!
p.s. I’m thinking about part two of mine. 😉

A pictured a writer getting a contract but then it went south!

It did cross my mind, but I decided against it because I knew lots of readers would have thought about it too…

Oh my, what an opening! What is on the crumpled sheet! It's something terrible of course and already I feel for this poor woman.  Also, I really liked your first two opening lines, beautifully done. (:

Something terrible enough to induce a near-catatonic state… thanks Elise!

From the ordinary to the extraordinary! I love the way you built up to it.

What a lovely way to put it G.E. I wouldn't have thought of it in terms of "ordinary to the extraordinary"… thanks for the compliment!

Sometimes we just need to let the crumpled papers fall to the floor? Love it.

Yes… just let go… holding on will not solve the problem… thanks.

That was quite a build-up!  I wasn't expecting the tightly clenched, crumpled paper.  Excellent writing!

    • michelle on June 6, 2012 at 10:55 am

Ah, glad you were caught by surprise at the end… thank you Sherry!

You really caught me with this one.  The clutched paper.  The zombie eyes.  Super.

*smiles*  It worked. You were caught unawares. My job is done! Thank you Susan.
